The Incident-Based Reporting Unit of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation compiles crime statistics for the state. In 2018, there was a total number of 1,991 crimes reported in Saline County. This included 217 violent crimes and 1,774 property crimes. Violent crimes include 2 murders, 33 rapes, 18 robberies, and 164 aggravated assaults. Property crimes include 279 burglaries, 1,363 larcenies, 132 motor vehicle thefts, and 26 arson. The 2018 figures, when compared with the numbers reported in 2014, show a significant decline in total crimes reported over a 5-year period. There were declines in rapes (-15%), robberies (28%), and larcenies (-13%). Murder, aggravated assault, burglary, and arson rates increased by 100%, 24%, 2%, and 189% respectively.
