Crime Statistics

The Kansas City Police Department generates and provides the annual statistics of all reported crimes within the city. The KCPD submits the collated yearly crime report to be included in the Kansas Bureau of Investigations’ crime statistics. According to the 2019 crime report, Wichita recorded a total number of 25,376 crimes. This figure consists of 4,463 violent crimes and 20,913 property crimes. The reported violent crimes include 35 murder cases, 330 rape cases, 468 robbery cases, and 3,630 aggravated assaults. More so, the reported property crimes include 2,672 burglary cases, 15,929 thefts, and 2,312 thefts. In contrast with the 2016 Crimes Report (a three-year interval), Wichita saw a very slight increase in the number of reported crimes at 0.7 percent. Murder increased by nine percent, while rape and aggravated assaults both increased by 14 percent. In terms of property crimes, burglaries declined by 32 percent, while thefts increased by 3 percent.

How to Find Sex Offender Information in Wichita

The KBI maintains and provides access to sex offender information in Wichita via an online database updated every 15 minutes. The online database features the name and personal details of compliant and non-compliant sex offenders residing within the city. Therefore, requesters can search using the offender’s first and last name, geographical location (street, city, county, and state), and zip. How Do I Visit an Inmate in Wichita Jail?

To visit an inmate at the Sedgwick County correctional facility, visitors must get pre-approved by the Detention Staff. Inmate visitation is through remote visits or in-person visits. More so, visitors must schedule visits 24 hours before the scheduled visit. The Correctional facility requires visitors to provide a valid form of identification to get approved for remote or in-person visits. An adult must accompany a minor during visitations. Wichita criminal court records are accessible to the public via the Sedgwick County Subscriber Access Network, which acts as the online repository for court records at the county level. Requesters can search and obtain criminal records at a specified fee. However, the platform doesn't provide access to confidential, redacted, or sealed records by the law. To use the online search platform, requesters must sign the Subscriber Agreement Form and register an account on the platform. What are Wichita Vital Records?

Wichita’s vital records are government-backed records that comprise information about life events recorded within the city. These vital records include - but are not limited to - marriage records, death records, divorce records, and death records. Wichita vital records are maintained at both the state and county levels by different custodian agencies. To obtain these records, residents will need to follow the instructions and fulfill the requirements set by the custodian agencies.

The Vital Records Office of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) maintains Wichita divorce certificates. Divorce records are not public records. Hence, certified copies of divorce records are only released to the record bearer(s), immediate family members, persons, or entities with direct interests (beneficiaries of the record bearer, and legal representatives.

Vital Records Office of the KDHE maintains all records of all marriage certificates in Wichita City. Hence, requesters can search and obtain copies of marriage certificates from May 1, 1913, to the present. The Vital Records Office provides access to marriage certificates via mail, call orders, and the State's IKAN mobile app. Marriage certificates are open records. Hence, anyone can request copies of marriage certificates at the KDHE.
